US satellite television service DirecTV Group Inc posted a higher quarterly profit on Thursday, helped by subscriber growth in its high- definition and digital video recording services.
While smaller rival DISH Network Corp, which has focused on the low-end of the market, lost 25,000 net subscribers in the second quarter, DirecTV said it added 129,000 net new subscribers in the United States in the same period. That compared with 128,000 DirecTV additions a year ago and the average forecast from five analysts was for 122,000.
